Double Object Rule in Passive Voice


(Active → Passive Voice)

जब एक वाक्य में दो objects हों —

Direct Object (वस्तु) और Indirect Object (व्यक्ति) —

तो उसे Double Object Sentence कहते हैं।


Double Object क्या होता है?

Active Voice में Structure:

Subject + Verb + Indirect Object (person) + Direct Object (thing)

या

Subject + Verb + Direct Object + to/for + Indirect Object


Example (Active):

He gave me a pen

me → Indirect Object (व्यक्ति)

a pen → Direct Object (वस्तु)


Passive Voice का Golden Rule 


Double Object वाले वाक्य में Passive Voice के दो सही तरीके बनते हैं।


 Passive Voice के दो Forms


Rule 1: Indirect Object को Subject बनाओ (ज्यादा common)


Structure:


Indirect Object + is/was/were + Verb³ + Direct Object

Example:

I was given a pen (by him).

मुझे एक पेन दिया गया।

Rule 2: Direct Object को Subject बनाओ


Structure:

Direct Object + is/was/were + Verb³ + to/for + 

Indirect Object

Example:

A pen was given to me (by him).

 एक पेन मुझे दिया गया।


Note:

अगर Indirect Object = person हो → to

अगर benefit / help का भाव हो → for

Examples (Active → Passive)


Example 1

Active: She taught me English.

Passive 1: I was taught English (by her).

Passive 2: English was taught to me (by her).


Example 2

Active: Father bought me a cycle.

Passive 1: I was bought a cycle (by father).

Passive 2: A cycle was bought for me (by father).


Example 3

Active: The teacher gave students homework.

Passive 1: Students were given homework.

Passive 2: Homework was given to students.


Exercise – Double Object (Passive Voice)


 A. Change into Passive Voice (Two forms जहाँ possible हो)

  1. The teacher gave the students homework.
  2. She sent me an email.
  3. Father bought me a new bag.
  4. The principal awarded the winner a prize.
  5. My friend told me a secret.
  6. They offered him a job.
  7. The mother cooked the children food.
  8. The coach taught us cricket.
  9. He showed me his report card.
  10. The company paid the workers their salary.


 Answers

1.

Passive 1: The students were given homework (by the teacher).

Passive 2: Homework was given to the students (by the teacher).

Passive 1: I was sent an email (by her).

Passive 2: An email was sent to me (by her).


3.

Passive 1: I was bought a new bag (by father).

Passive 2: A new bag was bought for me (by father).


4.

Passive 1: The winner was awarded a prize (by the principal).

Passive 2: A prize was awarded to the winner (by the principal).


5.

Passive 1: I was told a secret (by my friend).

Passive 2: A secret was told to me (by my friend).


6.

Passive 1: He was offered a job (by them).

Passive 2: A job was offered to him (by them).


7.

Passive 1: The children were cooked food (by the mother).

Passive 2: Food was cooked for the children (by the mother).


8.

Passive 1: We were taught cricket (by the coach).

Passive 2: Cricket was taught to us (by the coach).


9.

Passive 1: I was shown his report card (by him).

Passive 2: His report card was shown to me (by him).


10.

Passive 1: The workers were paid their salary (by the company).

Passive 2: Their salary was paid to the workers (by the company

अगर “person” को subject बनाओ → Preposition की जरूरत नहीं

अगर “thing” को subject बनाओ → to / for लगाओ
